Triggering stuff is everywhere. Screen everything. Fight symptoms and don't let your guard down so you'll slip and dissociate. It'll just make pain worse.
Stay safe.

Protect Yourself
How many days now? It's Day 2 of Trump World, and you don't have a choice. Everything that Trump says is a lie. The tiniest thing that makes him look less than 100% perfect at all times must in his view be instantly crushed. Anything he says is the truth. No matter how bizarre.
This is one of many signs of a dictator. I know for a long time we tried to keep this blog only about healing from trauma. But now that's expanded. We don't have a choice.
Our suggestions? The days of blindly trusting everything you see on TV or read in the paper are long gone. Do your homework and question everything.
Symptoms are still there. Also, lately painful flashbacks. But I know we're doing the right things to protect ourselves. You can't just sit back and do nothing.

Don't Black Out
Another day of fighting hard to not fall apart. When was the last time I got a good night's sleep? I don't know. You constantly fight to not dissociate and fall apart. If you don't fight back, all kinds of horrible thoughts hit you all at once. I won't list all of them here, because if I did, I might violently trigger somebody else.
You feel paralyzed with fear. But you can't sit back and do nothing. You have to do something. On bad days with anger, you feel like you're going to snap. Then, you're so exhausted that you lie down. Sometimes you just stay home and try to feel grounded. It's not safe to go out.
Protect yourself.

A Sense of Balance
Lots of errands to do today. Along the way, fighting hard to not black out from dissociating. Sometimes I just come home and lie down all afternoon because I'm so exhausted. Then again, what else can I do?
Set boundaries as best you can. Do you struggle with hypocracy from others? How do you cope with it?

Trying to Get Some Rest
Took a break yesterday to try and catch up on sleep. When was the last time I got a good night's sleep? I don't remember. Today, it's lots of breaks and trying to keep a sense of balance. Is that the cure to PTSD? No. On the other hand, my tolerance for drugs (other than necessary meds) is gone.
How are your symptoms? These days, violent dissociating still happens every day. You have to fight back. You just can't sit and do nothing. Screen everything. I still can't listen to the radio for more than about fifteen or twenty seconds. Then, turn it off because it's too much stimulus.
Do you feel abandoned? I have bad days where you feel like you can't trust anybody. How come nobody seems to care? We did nothing wrong. Yet, it feels like everybody's saying fuck off. This guy rape survivor shit is just too fucking weird.
How are you supposed to respond to that?
When you have flashbacks or hallucinate, is there any pattern to any of it? At times when I hallucinate weird thoughts that have no connection at all come to mind. Why? I don't know. But it's scary because you feel like you have almost no control.
How do you protect yourself?
You just want to feel safe. Set boundaries. Today, no news. Instead, just have safe content on as background noise. Pay attention to how tiny things affect you.
On bad days, I have trouble getting out of bed. It feels like every part of my body hurts. It's not because I worked out too hard. It's backed up trauma coming out.
What helps you to deal with this?

Some Ways to Deal With Trauma
Time to break our "no progressive content" rule to make some points.
The aftermath of the Treyvon Martin case continues. This means that more recycled comments about race will continue (along with the "pundit" comments, books, documentaries, cable news comments, lectures, films and any other profit making venture you can think of). We already know that racism sucks, is horrible, deadly, and needs to be stopped.
Yet, the mostly white owned corporate MSM won't allow all of the truth to be told. This means that everyone from Jesse Jackson to Al Sharpton, Tavis Smiley and others can only go so far. If you go beyond that, you're considered (fill in the blank with various racist terms), and cut off. None of these people are that brave. Which means you keep putting out the obvious, and you keep your job.
For everyone who's surviving trauma in some way, how do you cope? Here are some ideas.
It's not your fault (whether you're a survivor, or someone was sadly killed).
Nobody asked for this.
Why does the system treat survivors and victims so horribly? In many cases, racism, money and power. Maintain the status quo.
Despite all the horrible stuff that others may say and do, keep this in mind. As long as you're telling the truth, that's all that matters.
